CCCOnline offers both developmental and college-level mathematics courses. Courses include preparatory mathematics, general mathematics, finite mathematics, algebra, trigonometry, statistics, calculus, and differential equations. These studies impart specific knowledge on the basics of mathematics and general knowledge related to mathematical topics, as well as assist in the development of reason and judgment.
Developmental Math
If math isn’t your strength or if you’ve been out of high school for a while, you may find yourself taking developmental math classes -- MAT 030, MAT 060 or MAT 090 -- to bring your math skills up to college level. Your score on the math section of the Accuplacer® placement test you take when you first enroll in community-college classes (described below) will determine whether you need a refresher in math or whether you’re ready for college-level work. If you do end up in developmental math, you will thank yourself later for taking the classes. If you’re not prepared for college-level math, it just might kill you! At the very least, it will throw you off of your path to a college degree and success
Math Accuplacer®
All Colorado community colleges require most students to take an Accuplacer® English and math assessment before registering. The purpose of the assessment is to identify which English or math course you should begin with to maximize your academic success. The Accuplacer® assessment is administered by computer and measures reading, writing/sentence skills, and algebra skills. The assessment is not timed, but generally takes about 2 hours to complete. Placement scores are valid for two years.
You can arrange to take the Accuplacer® through the testing center at your Home College, or by arranging to take the test at another approved testing site. Contact CCCOnline's advisor for assistance.
For more information on the Accuplacer® take a look at the CCCOnline Assessments Information page.
Math Self-Assessments
Before registering for a college-level math class, please take one of the math self-assessment quizzes in the links listed below. In order to have a successful experience in your online math class, you must have the necessary background for the course. Along with the Accuplacer® placement test most new students take at their Home College, the self-assessments are designed to indicate the appropriate level for your math success.
Take the MAT 106 Survey of Algebra Self-Assessment.
Take the MAT 121 College Algebra Self-Assessment.
Take the MAT 122 College Trigonometry Self-Assessment.
Take the MAT 123 Finite Mathematics Self-Assessment.
Take the MAT 135 Introduction to Statistics Self-Assessment.
Special Note on MAT 121 - a Digital Textbook Course
MAT121 College Algebra has a "digital textbook" integrated into the online course. In other words, you don’t need to buy a physical textbook for the course. CCCOnline faculty and staff have worked with publishers to build state-of-the-art, highly interactive courses with the textbook materials available online. You will find your textbook content and other digital features right at your fingertips once you log in to your CCCOnline course.
Although you will not need to buy a textbook, a materials charge for the digital-text materials will appear on your tuition bill. The charge is less than a text would cost, however, since it is discounted at 35-percent off of the publisher's list price for the printed textbook.
